BEST TV SHOWS OF 2016

I said I wasn't going to make a ranking this year of the best shows I’ve seen, but I do have to for what I think is the number one show of 2016.

1.     ATLANTA
When Donald Glover left Community, it dealt a blow to the show. Sure they continued on with season 6, but there’s no denying the chemistry of his character, Troy with fellow numb nut Abed was a centerpiece of the show. Glover claimed he left the show, because he felt it didn’t belong to him, that it wasn’t his thing. A few years later and it seems Glover has found his thing in Atlanta, a show that can at best be described as experimental and at worst be described as a sitcom, but it isn’t always the latter. Definitely more of the former. The shows waives in and out of genres and yet seems to make everything appear seamless even though the episodes don’t follow a set structure. They still manage to tell a story, based mostly not on plots, but on moods and behaviours. So perhaps it was a good thing that Glover left his previous show to find himself and start this one, because it sure is good.

So there were a lot of good shows this year and in the spirit of not really ranking, I’ll just list off the shit that I thought was good viewing in 2016. Unfortunately, the news doesn’t count, that just bought announcements of death upon death:

The Americans (Season 4)
Game of Thrones (Season 6)
Orphan Black (Season 4)
Orange Is The New Black (Season 4)
The Night Manager
This Is Us (Season 1, still ongoing)
American Crime Story: The People Vs. OJ.
Stranger Things (Season 1)
Luke Cage (Season 1)
Marco Polo (Season 2)
Skinny Girl In Transit (Web Series) (Season 2)
