THE 20/20 REVIEW OF JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE’S NEW ALBUM

First of all, are you comfortable right there, right there? Let the review get in, right here, right here because Justin’s new album is an experience. On average it takes you six months to listen to just one song on The 20/20 Experience, so brace yourself! I'm going to make this review quick!

The track list features 10 tracks or 12, if you got the deluxe edition. The first 6 tracks really define the album, by the time you reach track 7, which is the shortest song within the album, you feel like you’re at an intermission for a Bollywood screening waiting to return to the other three and half hours of the movie. Jokes aside, Tim and Tim (that’s Justin Timberlake and Timbaland) have crafted an album to keep you occupied. You may not like all the songs and some of the lyrics may not necessarily be up there, but you will be intrigued by the overall sound and gusto of the album. Take for example, “Let The Groove Get In” from which I paraphrase the beginning of this post, I’m sure there’s a verse or two buried somewhere in that song, but it’s hard to tell when every minute you’re flooded with the chant of, “Are you comfortable right there, there?/ Let the groove get in, yeah, yeah, right there.” The only song I really can’t stand is “Blue Ocean Floor” which should’ve been left at the bottom of a blue ocean floor (come on, someone had to make that joke, plus it was too easy man!). I slept and woke up and that song was still playing!

Overall, I’d say there are 8 standout tracks out of an album of 10 or 12, which is good and also means there are actually 16 good tracks when you consider each one has its own sequel within the same song. I’m a big fan of Justin and despite all the criticism this album got, some very valid, I have to rate this album an 8/10. At least if Justin doesn’t win musician of the year, we can award him with educator of the year, because if today’s youth actually listen to this album from beginning to end, their attention span would increase by 25%. Who says nothing good comes out of music?

P.S They could’ve left the two bonus tracks off the deluxe edition, perhaps for a sequel, which actually reminds me…

P.S.S The album has a sequel coming in November. This is The Lord of the Rings of music. Are you comfortable?

Standout tracks: Just listen to the whole damn thing! "Is it really that good?" you ask. In the words of Timbaland, "You shouldn't have to ask me that question!"

RATING: 8/10
